GM should make "LS" V6's

GM should make a "LS" V6 series of engines based on the LS v8's. It would make sence, especially if they want to bring RWD back eventually.

4.8 V8= 3.6 V6
5.3 V8= 4.0 V6
6.0 V8= 4.5 V6

I'd rock one!

Re: GM should make a "LS" V6

It may end up with those V6s, and no more V8s. Was reading recently that GM plans to hault production of the Northstar in the next few years (guessing in response to the increase in CAFE requirements). Also heard that the RWD Impala idea has been scrapped. Would not surprise me if V8s become more and more uncommon in the coming years.

The LS V6 would be an interesting engine, I suspect that the 4.5 might be an excellent mill to drop into Darwin in 10-20 years when the current 4.3 wears out. Still, I can't imagine why GM would bother building V6 versions of the LS mills when they're already building the Atlas family of inline engines.

2800 2.8L 4 cyl 3.70X4.00 175hp 185lbft
2900 2.9L 4 cyl 3.76X4.00 185hp 195lbft
3500 3.5L 5 cyl 3.70X4.00 220hp 225lbft
3700 3.7L 5 cyl 3.76X4.00 242hp 242lbft
4200 4.2L 6 cyl 3.70X4.00 275hp 275lbft

While the LS V6s may have certain advantages over the Atlas engines (particularly for swapping into A/G bodies) I wonder if GM is in a position where it can afford to build a series of engines that could be easily overlapped by an existing series. Even the mighty 4.5L V6 (a sixified 6.0L V8) would fit between the Atlas 4200 and the LS 4800.

More than likely we won't see another chopped-down V8.

Was also reading that GM is going to be ending the 3800 after nearly 30 years of production. Will be replaced with smaller displacement, OHC V6s.

Not related to engines, but heard there are plans in the works to start consolidating GM dealerships. I think over the next 10 years we will see GM becoming more and more "an American Toyota."

GM an "American Toyota"? How so?

Small cars, cheaply made, difficult to service, and "flavor of the month" styling.

Certainly hope they don't, but they're currently not making anything I would buy. Ford is the only one with a chassis build RWD platform, and Chrysler offers RWD with full independent suspension (`a la Mercedes).

GM should be a GM dealership, with a Pontiac, a Buick, a few Chevy's including Trucks, and MAKE AN OLDS CUTLASS. All available at your friendly GM dealer.
