Vortec 4.3

A friend has a 4.3 Vortec for sale. I have a 93 4.3 TBI motor. Will the heads and exhaust manifolds bolt up to my engine without any hassles?

I know the V8 heads require different intakes and have no egr but I know nothing abouth the 4.3 swap possibilities. Hope you guys can shed some light for me.

What year vortec does he have for sale? 96-up will need a special intake manifold. 92-95 "vortec"s will use a typical 90 deg chevy v6 manifold.

I've kinda thought about Vortecs myself on the Sonoma. It's a '91 (TBI), but I recall something about some being called a Vortec head, but weren't? Do they have the Vortec-design combustion chamber or something?

96-up vortec v6 heads are identical to the v8 vortec heads.

My 94 "Vortec" is not a real vortec head. These are called "early vortecs" and they are pretty mich a swirl port. My engine is a L35, and the SYTY Guys like to use the L35 heads.

So the 64K$ question is: Is there any real improvement to be gained by installing these heads on a TBI 4.3? I was told the motor is from a 94. It has centerbolt valve covers but they are a low profile rounded cover vs the ribbed ones I have on my 93TBI.

In stock form, it probably wouldnt be worth the effort.
