duplicolors shadow kit

has anyone used Duplicolor's Shadow kit, or black chrome spray paint? my bumpers on my 80 Malibu are in pretty good shape, but the chrome is pitted. I think the black chrome look would look good and possibly help hide some of the pitting, but I know how hard it is to paint chromed steel. I was wonde...

Re: 200 metric trans shifting problems

thanks SSedan64...it actually shifts really good for the setup I have with the gearing and the large tires. I was worried because I read too soft of shifts cause premature wear, but I'm quite pleased with it after several trial runs through different driving scenarios. It upshifts and downshifts at ...

Re: 200 metric trans shifting problems

I added the correct bracket, then 'set' the cable at WOT by releasing the clip, and letting come forward until it was just barely tight at the linkage, then put the clip back on to hold it in place. It was just opposite of the shifting the way it was before, it almost seemed like it was shifting too...

Re: Anybody build up a 229 V6?

I'm running a eldebrock 4 bl intake and a 500 cfm eldy carb, 2 1/8 inch duals with 40 series flowmasters, and a 3.73 posi in the rear...once I got the transmission tv cable set right, I'm happy with the performance of the 229...was worried that the 500 carb was too much, but it seems to handle it ok...

Re: 200 metric trans shifting problems

thanks for the info, SSedan64! I bought the bracket from Summit, and had to adjust the cable slightly, but it shifts way better now...I may have it shifting a bit too quick now, but I'll have to drive it more to see, at least I know how to correct it now. Again, thanks for your info, it really helped!

Re: 200 metric trans shifting problems

thanks, I was thinking I might need that. Someone said the detent spring under the valve body might be broken, but if it shifts good when warm, I didn't think that could be the problem...I'm gonna order the linkage corrector. thanks for the info!

Re: 200 metric trans shifting problems

ok...I figured as much...was considering taking it to a transmission shop, but wanted to see if it was something simple I could fix...one thing I might try, summit has a tv bracket for the linkage off the carb that is supposed to fix some of the tv issues...its only like $20, so that might be what I...

200 metric trans shifting problems

hey, I haven't been here for a while! got some questions I hope to get help with. I have a '80 malibu with the factory 229 V6, with the 200 metric 3 speed. last year I added a few things to increase the power a bit, but made a few issues in the meantime. I added a posi unit with a 3.73 gear, dual ex...

Re: replacing 200 trans with 200r4?

that does help, madmaxx...I found a wiring kit at Summit by TCI made to install the 2004r or 700r4's in non ECM cars I'll probably use, so I can use a lock up converter. I still can't get the 200 metric in it now to shift right since changing the rear gear and the carb, been adjusting the tv cable ...

Re: dash cap suggestions

I bought mine from dixie monte carlo depot, and it fits fairly well...just wished I had pulled the dash out of the car first, and fitted the cap and glued it on outside of the car, I think I could have gotten a better fit...overall, I am satisified though, I think the cost was around $100

Re: GM AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ID

looking at the diagrams, would a 700r4 be a better fit to replace a th200 than a 200 4r? both need the wiring kit for the lockup, but the 700 looks like an easier mount physically in this diagram. Any one swapped either of these trannys in place of the 200?

Re: replacing 200 trans with 200r4?

I am considering swapping in a 200 r4 in place of my th200 in my '80 malibu...I know I'll need a new crossmember, but my ? is, will I need a different computer to control the shifts and the lock up converter?
