Re: Manual brake weight savings

I wouldn't think that there would be much weight savings. What does a vacuum booster weigh?

Now if you have a GN or T-Type removing the original Power Master brakes will save you some weight.

Re: $$ Price of fuel !!

Economy of scale. Not as many buyers for the high end fuels so the price is higher.

Don't know if there is more refining required as compared to 92 premium.

Of course I'm sure there is a comfortable profit margin included.

Re: Turbo350 column to floor shifter conversion?

I think most folks just install a cable operated shifter like a B&M. Then remove & abandon the column shifter linkages, etc. What I'm interested in learning, is what might need to be done to the steering column? I know that the rotating column shifter collar, should be replaced with one from a conso...

Re: Timing mark/timing tab

Bring it up to TDC on the compression stroke of #1 & see where you're at.

You may have to fabricate a timing pointer. Here is a simple one that a friend fabricated for one of my engines.

Re: what size stock camshaft? ????'s

I know that they had been reformulated a few years back, but they still have high enough levels of zinc for a diesel engine's flat tappets. I've been using Delo in all my flat tappet engines for at least 7 years now & have had no problems.

Re: what size stock camshaft? ????'s

What's wrong with using Delo-400 or Rotella?

Last time that I dug into the zinc/oil issue the 2 listed above had the highest zinc content.

Here is what 17" wheels, Bell-Tech drop spindles & 1" lowering springs in the rear look like on a Regal.

Re: what size stock camshaft? ????'s

You will need to use an oil that still has zinc in it for the lifetime of your camshaft. Or use a zinc additive. Break in the camshaft & lifters by following the manufacturers break in procedure. Once the break in has been completed, drain your engine oil as soon as possible while it is still hot to...

Re: what size stock camshaft? ????'s

If you shop eBay & Craigslist you should be able to find an intake & carb for a lot less than that. I bought a used Performer for about $45-$50 if I recall correctly. I bought the 450cfm Holley from a carb rebuilder & then bought a rebuild kit. Throw in a few $'s more for gaskets, silicon, etc, & I ...

Re: what size stock camshaft? ????'s

I would look for a mild performance camshaft. If you are going through all the work to replace the cam, lifters & then break-in the camshaft correctly, you might as well enjoy a bit more performance. What type of oil are you running? The leading cause of flat-tappet camshafts failing is the newly re...

Re: Lowering 1979 Malibu

It may very well be a 1978 G-Body only problem. I own a '78 & that's most likely why I remember the issue. I think the spindle diameter is smaller on whatever early years are affected. I also own an '87 G-Body that the P/O installed drop spindles on & 1" lower springs in the rear. It wears 17" wheel...

Re: Lowering 1979 Malibu

I recall that there is some type of problem with the earliest G-body spindle diameter not matching the after-market or S10 drop spindles. I can't recall the specifics or the years, but you should look into it. The S10 drop spindles will fit the '87 G-body.
