I don't check on here as much as I use to haven't done a lot to my car in awhile but have done a couple Dragweeks BB super street power adder class "nitrous" finished 2nd in class 2017 and 3rd in 2018 think averaged 8.78 @156 need to make some improvements to catch the turbo cars but just...
I have a TKO600 mechanical linkage old style Chevy Lakewood bell housing not the odd ball Malibu one. Home made crossmember I think my motor is lower in the back than it was with the Muncie because the TKO is really close to the trans tunnel. TKO doesn't shift as good as the Muncie did but it...
The rear you can drill the spot welds the front will have to be cut. People panic about taking them out but old cars didn't have them. I know my 69 Camaro doesn't have them probably any other car from that year or below.
If it's a 8.5 then you may have to try and straighten it. The 7.5" I think are smaller in dia a 8.5 should be 3" at the housing then neck down if it's a G body housing.
They are extremely hard to drill out and very hard to press out. Probably a better option to cut a tube out of another rear and weld it back together or just change the housing if it's s 7.5.
I had a bone stock 06 GTO with a T56 nothing but problems GM fixed under warranty once I fixed it 2 or 3 more times. It never shifted great. My Malibu has a TKO 600 no comparison to the T56 it shifts easier smoother and more positive feeling. I've seen some used TKO's for $1200 to $1300
They're not to hard to rebuild. Maybe cheaper to buy a good trans. If its making noise in 4th you may have a bearing issues. ( 4th should by pass the cluster)
I've put the ones like Speedway Motors sells and I think I got the last one from Rebel Wire or something like that. They both worked fine but they're not a direct bolt in. I just made a plate where the original was.
I have some that have been in my car for 10+ years. All kinds of abuse the years over 700 Horsepower and a stick shift. The best I remember they came in a plastic box with a yellow and black packaging. Never any issues.
