I had mine do that too, plus didn't have reverse. My transmission guy put a checkball in the wrong place in the valve body, and it took another transmission guy to figure out the problem. My trans was a hopped up 350 turbo with a brake, that I ran in a 10 second ElCamino.
Look up tracy performance bellhousings. Sorry I don't know how to do the link thing. :oops: :oops: :oops: It has chevy bellhousing list with the casting numbers, so you can tell what it is. Hope this helps.
On that harness you talked about, there's another connector up by the carburetor, on the pass side. Pull it apart and look in there, you'll probably see it is corroded.
Pass side between the carb and valve cover there's a wire harness with a connector. Pull it apart and you'll probably see the conection for the red wire is corroded. Clean it up and see what happens.
