I think its easier to pull with the cluster disconnected but Ive never done it a different way. It might be possible is you unscrew the bulkhead connector from the firewall but that might be a pain in the butt with the dash hanging there.

Another option would be to buy the correct cloth and have your seats redone. SMS fabrics would probably have the cloth in stock. It might be a little more money but then you wouldnt have to redo the whole interior.
