Yup. Just a theory of mine at this point but I recall the th350C trans came out that year. Perhaps that's why the bigger flexplate and staggered starter was used

Ok so just when I thought I knew everything... I look up starter for 79 267 - inline bolts, small flex plate. I look up 80 267 - staggered starter, big flex plate. 81 267 - inline starter... So there's a zinger; for reasons unknown only 1980 267s got staggered starters.

Ah, those numbers aren't always acurate. I bought a "get by" engine one time. Thought it was a 305 truck engine. Turned out to be a 262 from a Monza. Major disapointment but it did the job until I scored another 350.

Hmm. Out of curiosity, you say you checked block numbers. What is the suffix code on the block pad forward of the right hand or passenger side cylinder head?

You are correct. 267 has straight across starter. Learned this the hard way when I swapped to 350 first time. Months old 267 starter wouldn't fit 350. 3.3, 3.8, 267 and 305 have 153 tooth flexplate/flywheel. I don't recall the 267 blocks being drilled for both starters as some 350's are.

What's the best option for new sockets? Also the Left side corner is a four wire. I only see 2 and 3 wire replacements online.

Without getting into my personal life, I get to spend about $1k on my car every 5 years. Considering I just dropped that on wheels and rubber, tube arms are out of the question. Harbor Freight ftw! Body Shim Assortment, 144 Pc.

Do have a "Ford" style solenoid feediing the starter? I put a LT1 starter on my car and it was grinding bad. No amount of shimming would fix it even tried half shims...found out that those starters need constant power or the bendix doesn't retract all the way and causes grinding. I ditched the...

Ended up getting AC Delco's at dealer cost. They came in today and...made in China :roll:

Not looking to spend a ton of $$$ but I don't want China crap either. I see Bendix, Wagner, Raybestos rotors on ebay. Are they still made in USA or at least decent? DO NOT want slotted, crossdrilled etc.

I checked Mike's Monte's, Gbodyparts.com, ebay...I need the inner seat belt sleeve, the hard plastic part that keeps the latch from flopping around. I'm tired of junkyard ones disintegrating on me. I saw some generic one on conversion van and rv sites. What has everybody done about this?
