I really miss the activity that use to be here. Although I do not facebook, I've been away as life has brought me other interests. Still have my almost complete, never ending project of a Malibu. This site had been a valuable resource for me. Hey TOMS78BU, sounds like your on the right path...
Hey guys, not on the site much anymore, new hobbies, family and such. Don't work on the car much, progress is spotty. Here's a quick vid (less than 1 minute) of my build. Not doing a race car, just a cruiser. Maybe on the road next year..who knows.
This might help. Old pic. 15x10 5.5 bs (rear). I notched to the seam, mini-tubbed and rolled the lips. Could fit a 295/50. A little more b.s would have made for a better fit. Not using the rims pictured.
Hey Dave, Thanks for the follow up. Looks like you've done lots of leg work sorting out the details. I finally got my US Brake/AFCO 2.5" calipers bolted up with the Bendix Titanium II pads. Picked up a set of stainless hoses and am in the process of installing my new pre-bent lines. I...
I know this is an old post, but I finally got a reply from Wilwood on the whole "low drag" issue for their iron metric replacement caliper.
These are what I was thinking of using...
Thanks for the input. I've heard from others with the same issue, looks like spacers are the way to go. This pic does not make it look as bad as it really is, I pulled the fender up as close as I could just to see, but then the door gap is way off. With the door gap proper, the core support...
So I go to bolt my fenders back on and...they seem to sit about 1 inch above the aluminum core support I'm using, I can bolt them down to the support, but then there is a bit of tension because of the height issue, It's do-able, just does not seem right. I'n using Energy Suspensions poly...
So here is the adjustable pushrod I'm using attached to the brake pedal, the longer pushrod is from the s10 set-up, but it would need to be shortend alot to work.
Here's the factory pushrod still attached to the booster. The factory one is held captive within the booster and when the other end...
Re: Manual brakes with pictures
slimbo5, Thats beautiful!
jacobgiles, Malibudave1978 made the plate along with the adjustable pushrod I'll be picturing this weekend. I'm using
a new Raybestos 7/8" master cylinder part #39166
I'll be posting some more pics of the master cylinder and pushrod...
Well,....I admit,.....I do find shooting stray unwanted farm cats fun.
However...I also think spending a day at the range seeing what kind of groups I can hold with different loads kind of fun.
Predator calling in late winter is also great fun.
(this picture is older, not current)
And although...
I've been watching the manual brake post here and on other sites very closely because I'm doing the same thing. I've seen alot of the same questions keep popping up (including some by me) and I thought some pictures may help clarify things. I'm not a brake guru. I hoped to have this finished...
At one of the rural farms I use to hunt for coyotes, the farmer would clue me in on mean stray toms that he did not want hanging around the barn. So..if I eyeballed one of the cats he described walking around thinking it was safe or something..... viol'a...Target practice. And although this...
Re: Upgraded Stock Brakes on a 1980 El Camino with Manual Br
 Oh my...the devils in the details. I'll be setting mine up shortly. After reading all this...All I can say is WOW.
malibudave1978...are you a rocket scientist?..I mean that in a good way.
Re: Upgraded Stock Brakes on a 1980 El Camino
Well it looks like 2.50" will be an tiny upgrade for me if I go with stock style calipers, I mic'd my original ones and the caliper piston does come out to 2.38", o.d. If you do go with the s-10 master cylinder, I'm curious to see how that works...
Re: Upgraded Stock Brakes on a 1980 El Camino
Hey malibudave1978, nice post. Question... you wrote:
The Speedway Motors big bore metric calipers (2.75” bore v 2.50” bore standard)
I thought the standard bore was 2.38", so wouldn't the 2.50" also affect the brake bias-and peddle travel?, and...
