transmission Slip or converter too big for gear?

You need more gear, your combo is mismatched.

    need combo help

That combo would be good for 450+ hp at the fly. I think you would be good with a 3000 stall if it is street/strip, if its race only you could step up to a 3500.

    pump gas ??HIGH COMPRETIOM

You can run pump gas on a 13:1 motor that has all the timing taken out of it. For street you wouldn't want more than 10.5:1 and that is with a good cylinder head. You can run a little more compression with pump gas with a vortec head because they like less timing that the old school stuff...

    How much nitrous?

I went with a single pattern cam because the heads were ported on the exhaust side and flowed 253 intake/ 205 ex. @ .525. Anyway I am looking more into just breaking into the 12s with the car. I runs great now but I haven't taken it down the strip yet. The max nitrous I would ever put to it...

    which carb for this setup

750 with mechanical secondaries. If this car will see cold weather get a choke. If this is a nice weather warm cruiser the choke can be skipped for the increased air flow not having a choke horn provides.

Do I Need a New Carb?

Check your fuel pressure. Pump may be bad. If not you may need to rebuild you carb, maybe clogged boosters or bad needle and seat.

    Patriot vortec heads, anygood?

Patriot makes decent stuff, a lot of the LS1 crowd uses their heads with great results. The dual bolt pattern intake is a nice feature but it always seems you have to run the vortec style intake anyway cuz of the mating angle of the standard intake.

    track time soon

Did you replace your U joints? If not I would do that and go with solid body non-greaseable units. At your power level I dont think the stock ds will have a problem as long as its balanced. Remember to have a driveshaft loop as well, youll need it if u get into the 12s anyway.

    Breaking in new engine

Yes if you have a flat tappet cam, follow the cam break in first. Then take it out under load in second or 3rd gear and accelerate and decelerate for 10-15 mins to seat the rings. This makes the rings expand under the pressure of the gas and seal into the hatch pattern in the cylinder walls...
