Wrecked LS1 T56 Z28 - what do you think? Look..!

I just saw that too and it would at least make me wonder if it sat on the revlimiter until it died when they smashed it. I would definetely demand a startup before any purchase.

    4L60E only works when cold...

Some really good info there! Thanks.I'm sorry but it's all for nothing. I broke the engine on my Supermotard bike, the brakes on my Mercedes collapsed and A-Head tuning has just finished up the porting/freshening of the Kawasaki cylinder head. I honestly can't even emagine how i will get myself...

    4L60E only works when cold...

Haven't been able to look at the car yet, let alone get any codes form it. Why didn't i think of that? -It should have the E version of the transmission as far as i know. The mileage is roughly 100K milesa filled with Harley parts/bikes. It seems to be in OK general condition though and i'm a bit...

    4L60E only works when cold...

Hey guys, i haven't been on this site for a good while now but really could use some help. I'm about to buy a 97´Astro 4.3 with a transmission that only works when it's cold. The first thing that came to my mind was either the modulator or the TV wire. Does any of you know of any common...

Piston anti friction coating worth it?

I won't coat the crowns since this engine isn't the one intended for boost. Hopefully the lower piston drag will get me a few HP or at least a little cooler bores and less wear on them and the pistons. By the way, this what it looks like on the Wiseco i had coated for the bike

Piston anti friction coating worth it?

I have the coating on the piston in my bike and it doesn't even add a split hairs thickness to the skirt. The coating in my case isn't teflon but a material that takes up oil particles and release them when friction heats up the material to a certain point. It will cost me roughly 300 to coat...

    GM Head gasket Q

Now that you mention it i remember ripping a few newer 350's apart only to find the steel shim gasket on those as well the very old 350's i've been digging into. I haven't gotten around to measure how far down the holes the slugs are yet, but i did take a closer look at the Etec heads. They seem...

    GM Head gasket Q

Good to know! I beleive the .015 compressed thickness with the FelPro might be cutting it too tight since the shortblock is a 86and up piece that, if my memory serves me rigtht, doesn't have the slugs 0.025" down the holes like the older 350's used to have. I need to double check that but my...

    sbc vs. lsx

I had a '75 Impala 4dr ht about four years ago and it got about 18-19mp/g mixed driving. The real trick was to keep that beast under 55. The engine was a little milder than 300horse though, but i don't see that extra power translating into worse mileage in your rambler that weighs about half of...

Little M vs. Iron Eagle vs. Motown

That's exaclty what i demand when i buy stuff. -Perfection in every way, and i'd rather pay a little if i can extra to know it will get done spot on by someone with great knowlegde and expertise. Before i forget it, do you assemble shortblocks at all Carl? You have the equipment and knowledge...

Little M vs. Iron Eagle vs. Motown

Re: Re: Those blocks are top of the line and so far we have seen no problems with them so far, and we sell the 600 dollars cheaper all machined then the Sportsman blocks. They are truely a good buy but I am sure you see a price increase in the next 2 months. Here is a good link to look over...

Little M vs. Iron Eagle vs. Motown

Re: A little thread highjack here... The new cheaper Dart blocks i see in the Summit catalogue and some other places, whats the whole idea with those? It seems to me like they have traded material thickness and strength for some more ready-to-run features? Have you worked with these new blocks...

    Breaking in new engine

If you have 150miles on the engine i would at least half throttle it and completely lift off on decel.

    GM Head gasket Q

Perfect! -I definetely trust your knowledge. I better take a peek at those Fel-Pro's as well because they are even thinnner if my memory serves me right....?

    Breaking in new engine

After cam break-in i change the oil and then go out on a ride and focus on seating the rings. Accelerate mildly with a locked up gear up to around 3k rpm and then let go of the gas ang engine brake down in speed. Repeat that but with increasingly more throttle and more rpm. After i have done...

Piston anti friction coating worth it?

I'm trying to figure out if getting my pistons skirts coated with anti friction materials will decrease negative torque and wear enough to be worth it in a cheap buildup. I'm a big fan of trying to eliminate negative torque/friction in engines and even though the 350 i'm building will be a mild...

    GM Head gasket Q

Does GM's own .28" compressed thickness steel laminate head gasgets work with aluminum heads? I've got dished slugs and really need the narrow bore/thin gasket to keep compression up.... It's starting to look like the heads will be E-tec 170's. If they won't work does anybody have something to...

    Iron PowerGlide opinion

Hi guys, I can get my hands on a working iron powerglide for cheap. I remember many comments about them beeing a "bulletproof" casing to build on. That's what i have heard but have no clue or fact to back it up. The question is, would you buy an iron PG for 100$, fill it with aftermarket stuff...
