I don't know. When I bought my 1979 Malibu wagon, it was missing that spring and had a smaller spring between the fork and the bellcrank. As a result, the pedal rattled because it had no means to pull it back fully. In my Monte Carlo, I first put a hose clamp on the y-pipe and attached a spring...

It doesn't look like Dorman makes the swivel, so I feel the swivel will be a dealer-only item or a restoration parts item. I don't think a parts store will carry it. Search for 3840845 and you will find the best price to get it. Some vendors are out of their minds with the price they are...

I wonder if the hardened tool stool bushings for 4-speed linkage have the same inside bore as the lower pushrod swivel diameter? Hurst Hardened Steel Bushing and Clip Kit Write to Paul Cangialosi ([email protected]) and ask what the inside diameter of the bushings are so see if you can use...

Swivels are all the same size. A bushing or welding/redrilling are the options. The swivel is the consumable part. A brass bushing may wear quickly. A hardened bushing may be a better idea.

It is a very thick piece. The one pictured on my website I did with a stick welder in about 1991. The important thing is to get proper penetration or the part will peel away with force. The brace will do a far better job than the factory fillet weld. They must have had bad lots as I have seen a...

It is good you find the plastic ring. If you bought the rebuild kit, you would have been replacing them anyway if 1 of them melted.

I don't recommend putting in the 1985 Monte Carlo column in as you will be defeating a safety feature. The factory set up the columns so that 2 steps are required to put the key into the Lock position. With an automatic, you have to put the transmission in Park before the key can be moved to the...

The grease on your outboard ballstud looks gritty. On the outboard ballstud, you should also have a star lock washer to keep the nut from backing off against the frame bracket. If you get the kit from OPGI, you will have one. I hadn't seen a washer welded there before, but it can't hurt. Where...

I think with enough money, either transmission can be built to handle a specified torque rating. I don't know about cost of each. Some people like the lower higher numerical 1st gear ratio of the TH700 because it feels like having a higher numerical ratio rear gear, (I made a mistake about...

The TH-700R4 is 3 inches longer than the TH350 and will require a custom crossmember and a shorter driveshaft, but the TH200-4R is the same length as a TH350 and you can use a Monte Carlo SS crossmember if you add the extra piece to your frame. If you want a custom dual hump crossmember, the...

The quality of the OPGI parts should be of good quality and the reviews for that kit are all very good. I don't know why they include 2 felt washers; there is only a felt washer on the outboard end. The inboard end is sealed by the square seal on the ballstud mounted to the engine.

The header panel sits in front of the hood between the fenders. The headlights and grill fasten to it.

Very Nice! Where did you find a rust free car? A 3.73 rear and a transmission with overdrive make a good combination for acceleration and highway cruising.

I don't know what you mean by the "swivel bar". The bellcrank is a part by itself, unless you bought a kit that was supposed to come with other parts that they forgot to send you. These are the parts that fit into the bellcrank...

It looks like your spring is rubbing the header, which is not good. One or both will wear quickly, it will be noisy, and you will feel it in the clutch pedal. At the bottom of this web page, I demonstrate where to relocate the return spring holes for a better pull angle by the spring...

Yes, that bend is supposed to be there. Mine has the same bend.

The original bellcrank does have some curves that the older GM cars don't have. It is not likely that it is bent from its original shape. On some poorly made knock-offs, the bend in the main shaft is kinked rather than a mandrel bend.
