Converted 1978 Malibu from automatic to 4-speed Muncie. Used 1985 corvette bellhousing Adjust clutch so trans shifts good but no free play at pedal. What could the problem be?? Any help appreciated.

Are you saying the only way you get full clutch disengagement is by adjusting the clutch to the point of no pedal free play? My thought goes to either an issue with the z-bar (does it have more than 1 hole at the end of the arms?), incorrect clutch fork, or clutch fork not seated properly.

exactly, z-bar has only 1 hole, could possibly be incorrect clutch fork, may try drilling another hole in z-bar, thanks.

Wrong bell housing. Screws up the linkage geometry.

It is a suitable bellhousing when used with the proper length straight fork (14066235; the 1985 Corvette fork is too short). The lower pushrod pocket is in the same 3D space as the OEM fork.

If you need have insufficient pedal throw, then the fork is too long, , or the upper clutch pushrod hole is too far up the pedal, or you are using the wrong bellcrank.

If you are still using the Corvette fork ballstud, you also need to replace the ballstud with the shorter ballstud used in most other car applications of that period.

What fork are you using?

Has the hole in the clutch pedal been welded and redrilled?

Is the fork properly engaged in the release bearing?

If you have only 1 hole in the lower arm of the bellcrank, you may not have the correct bellcrank. Do you have pictures?
