what do you guys set your backlash to? i was told .003-.005. just wasn't sure if that changes for a car that sees some track time. i just want to check the rear i bought before i put it in the car.

Normally... GM specs are .005-.008

Richmond lets you go to .010...BUT I say that is too wide...But that is how Richmond has to keep their gears quiet...lol.

.003-.005 would be if your going to DRAG race ONLY and trailer the car.

Some 2 cut gears are even as low as .002-.004...wow that is just too close for my liking. I would think on free way driving your looking for a over heated gear. Good luck and hope this helps.

thanks jim!

i put a dial indicator to it last night. i have 0 experience setting that up...so i'm not sure how good my readings are. at first, it was in the.010 range....then i set it up in a different spot on the housing and got .006. i spun the gear 180 degrees and when i set the dial indiacator back up, i got .010. i'm going to have someone a little more seasoned in that department check it for me. the person i bought it from said that there was only 50 miles on all this new stuff (richmond gear fyi). just want to be sure before puting this in the car. there were a couple things about this rear end that i found to be questionable...so i want to check EVERYTHING to be safe!

You have to watch so the indicator measuring shaft does not rub against the gear in front of it while still keeping it staight 90 degrees off the gear your reading...Kind of touchy...lol. .006 or .010 seems to be usable BUT if it is both...??? That is NOT good. Jim
