Well i got a 2004r and it has a 2400 stall lock up converter. It use to stall at 3k now i can flash it with foot brake to 3500 and under load (flooring it) it goes to 4k. and last year i was running 12.9 to 13.1 at 101. now that doesn't sound right at all. I figure it should be 105 or so. I'm also calculating 19% slip what does a normal converter slip?

My motor is:
355
Camel hump heads
ported heads and intake
msd ignition
9.5 to 1 comp
750dp
292h cam
3.70 gears and spool
28x10.5 slicks and no traction issues.

time to switch to turbo400 and redneck converter or will a 2004r live behind this with a good converter?

i would think a 200 could live behind that easily. whats the rpm thru the traps and tire size?

right around 5200 in 3rd i know that sounds high but that is what it is and i run 28x10.5 m/t slick

i gotta fix this problem b/c im gonna give it a 150shot towards end of the year.

i can pay 505 shipped for a redneck converter for 2004r or and can swap a turbo400 and buy shift kit and converter for probably about the same then sell the 2004r that has a shift kit and the lock up hardware minus the junk converter.

converter slip is about 12.9%. under 10 percent is best but on the juice my car was up around 13 as well. i was around 10 n/a. i was told by art at coan that was fine and the fact that its a heavy car and doesnt have alot of gear it needs that to get moving.

If the Converter you have is a stock restalled 12" Dia. get rid of it. The only way to get that stall is by using severe negative fin angles which is very inefficient. Sounds like it's about to give up if the stall keeps increasing. Probably bending the fins and getting looser. Next will be broken fins & Trans damage.
A N2o shot will surely kill it. Time for an upgrade, 10" or a 9.5"
A PTC 9.5" Nonlockup would be a huge improvement if you don't mind the extra 150-200rpm while cruising. Coan is very good also.
