Basic engine question for valve spring change on BBC

I am changing the valve springs with the heads on the car. With all the rockers off with #1 at TDC what other cylinders are also TDC?
My garage is very dim and my flashlight died. I feel like I should know this but cant remember.

BTW I am using rope in the cylinders to hold the valves as my compressor is damn loud for my garage with people living around it.

I don't think there is a gonna be any at TDC, seeing how it fires one at a time. But I do remember there is a couple that are close, should be enough to put the rope in there or to keep the valve from falling...

The rope trick works just fine.

There should be 2 pistons at TDC at the same time:
1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2
1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2
1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2
1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2

Give all of the retainers a good whack with a socket and hammer to break them loose first.

Just don't knock them out & into the engine...
