Has anyone else heard of/done this? I've read about it (basically working the friction material from the brake pads/shoes into the rotors/drums), and have only done it once. Is it one of those must-do processes? I did it in the last set of pads/rotors I did but I don't know how much of a difference it would really make.

Only things I do with rotors and brakes is to 1. Make sure there is a non uniform pattern on the rotors. Putting them on as cut is no good. Use a diegrinder with a scuffy pad and make lots of circular patterns on it. I think most new rotors come like this. They are surface ground instead of a circular cut.

2. Take car out and make several random low speed stops. 30 to 20, 30 to 15 20 to 0 etc to brake in pads.

These days, in road racing you only bed street performance pads/rotors. If you don't have "race" stuff, follow the manufacturers bedding process. I can't really speak for current drag racing parts...
