My friend is building a 468 bbc. Some details are 3600 lbs w/driver 4.11 gears, turbo 400, 781 oval port heads w/ 2.19x1.88 heads 10:1 compression, 17/8 headers, 3500 stall with a comp .623 lift solid roller.

My question is,,, what would be the best oval port intake for a 2500-7000 rpm power band? I was thinking of the performer rpm air gap but wasn't sure if it would fall off around 6500-7000?? I was wondering if a single plane would be better. If so what do you guys reccomend? The car will occasionally be street driven with a focus on quarter mile e.t. Thanks, Matt.

i would say a Victor Jr 454-R if he mainly wants to race it. Or the Weiand Team G is a good intake too

I see,, however the 454 r is a rectangular port intake. He has 781 oval port heads. I have seen people mismatch between intake and cylinder port design. Howeve are there any drawbacks to this??

Why would you worry about power falling off at 6500-7000rpm? That's past the power band of the motor. With that combination the motor will never see 7000 rpm. That motor will make peak HP @ about 6100-6200 rpm, anything beyond that is just going through the motions and risking damage. Lee

With that low of stall and that small of cam, stick with the Performer RPM or the air gap version, dual plane.

If the converter was a higher stall and the cam was matched properly, then use the Vic jr. oval.

leaving a good bit of performance on the table with the cam/converter setup, even on pump gas.

There was a guy who put a 10'' tire 3700 lb 69 chevelle in the 10.30-10.40 range with this cam, ported heads, ang rpm air gap intake. Comp list this power band of this cam at 2500-6500 rpm's. My experience has been that powerbands on cams are usually good for 2-400 rpm over avertised rpm range.

I agree with 10secbu, there is def. more that you can do with the cam selection. The heads are fine, but the cam and converter could be more agressive. I am 20 min from Stl and I have a brodix HVH that has been gasket matched and cleaned up, but it might be a little big for that motor lol

The Weiand Stealth intakes are pretty good. They often make a teeny little bit more power up top than the Performer RPM. The P/N for BBC oval ports is 8019.
