I have a 1979 31 spline Ford 9" true 9". 3.50 gears with the traction lock. I have pulled it all apart and am in the process of rebuilding it. I was wondering what to replace to make it strong enough for 450 hp with 4:10 gears. I am going to replace the axles and probably have to buy a new housing to directly fit the bu. Trying to do this on a budget. I got the rear for free and it looks to be in pretty good shape with the exception of a little surface rust. Any suggestions would be great.
Rest of the car will be along the line of:
350 .060 over, flattops, Al. heads 180-190 (64cc), 350 or 400 turbo built.
280 hydrolic roller cam, (?2500?) stahl conv., street sized tires. minimal interior for a street rod and other areas trimmed to save weight.
