chevy bolt pattern

trying to remember am I right that our malibu's use a 5x4.75 stud pattern on the wheels.

Unless it's an 80 or older. Then it has 7/16-20 studs...

... and the wheels are typically 0-offset, meaning the mounting point is in the center of the wheel, as opposed to being to one side or the other as with late model F-Body wheels. Once you get past a certain width you'll need to go with (I believe) 4.5" backspacing, or somewhere around that.

GM G-body 15" x 7" wheels aren't 0 offset. They're typically 3.75" backspaced, which is a -7 offset.
