I have a 700R4 trans from a 1988 Corvette and was wondering can I change the tailhousing from the Corvette style to a regular Chevy 700R4 tailhousing in order for it to work in other Chevy applications with no problems?THANKS
There's about 7/8" difference between the Vette & Regular. The Output Shaft may be shorter on the Vette. You'll have to check.
If it is, the Output Shaft would have to be swapped. I'm not a 700R4 guy, Trans may have to be torn down to do this. http://www.makcotransmissionparts.com/mm5/graphics/Catalog-pdf/700R4-4L60E.pdf
The extension housings will readily interchange between all 700R-4 transmissions. However, the Corvette output shaft is shorter than a conventional 2WD 700R-4 output shaft, so you will need to change the output shaft as well. Changing the output shaft requires complete disassembly of the transmission.
I have a 88 Corvette 700r4 in car and all I had to do was get the tailhousing on the right in the picture they came on Caprices of the same year and later. The housing you have was used on Corvettes and Camaros but the other piece was was needed for the Caprices to mount the 700r4 curiously never have checked the same trucks that use the 700r4....the only thing you have to remember is that when use this piece the mounting length of the 700r4 will be the same as 200r4 and TH400 and wont have to tear down the trans to make it work....you should notice that there are no mounts at the rear of your 700r4 case the were on the tailhousing at least mine where ..
