Can anyone explain to me what the vendors mean when they advertise the trans crossmember as having different drop inches? For example I've seen 2"drop,4" drop, 6"drop, and 8"drop crossmembers and I havent a clue what they're referring to other than the obvious distances in length, but I dont know which is appropriate for my application. Btw, this is in reference to a 98' F-body 4L60E going in my 1980 Caprice thats patiently awaiting its LS1 conversion. Any help is greatly appreciated.

My guess is your looking at the universal tubular dropped crossmemebers (i.e street rod type stuff) and not one made for a specific application?

Exactly, and I'm trying to figure out what the drop represents?

The drop dimension is the distance from the top of the flat part of the tube to the top of the tube where it's bent down (top again). Basically from the top of the flat to the top of the drop center portion.
