The wagon tank is tall and on the left side. The El Camino tank is wide and shallow.

I just looked at Rock Auto and see 2 Fuel Tank Sending Units listed for a 1982 El Camino.

hmmi was looking them up for a 79 elcamino and they don't list one for that year but every year after that.i wonder if there's a difference in those years like that.they do show the tanks fit 78-87 so if the tanks are the same across the board why wouldn't the sender?if the tanks all fit, then the sender should i would think.i'm sorry bout that t5, i didn't think to look for a newer year model when the site showed all the models it crosses over to and it didn't cross that might be why i didn't bother looking another year.thanks just the same.i think i'll be ok going with an 82 sender in the 79 gas tank if the tanks aren't listed differently.

They may come with different number of Lines, Vent, Return, Feed etc.. so they would still work, may just need to plug a Line etc...
When I Googled it most listed 78-87 ElCo Senders, 22gal. N23 option code or 17gal. no code.
