Gears for 7.5 10bolt

Hello...
What would be the highest possible standard rear gears for a 7.5 10 bolt ? I am looking for something like 3.xx ?? Axle seems to be complete standard with 26 spline axles , as original in a 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. I do not want to use a spacer (difficult to get over here) and as i am on a budget want to use something used orig. GM . Maybe i can pull one out of some other car/make ??
I have no idea so far.. Yust looked on ebay and found out it should be for an open carrier ? 2 way ? That should be what is in the rear end....
Maybe there is anything else i can put into the 7.5 housing from another car , maybe with a limited slip , posi , diff ?
Thank you for any help.

Could you find a 4cylinder 2wd Chevy S10 pickup? Those usually have 3.73 gears or so in them.

well, new gears aren't all that expensive to buy for that rearend. the origional gear in my old 7.5 was a 2.29. they make gear sets for series 2 carriers that are thicker so that you wouldn't have to use a spacer to go to a 3.73 ratio. that's what i ended up buying (4.10 ratio though).

if you're going to upgrade to a posi, then buy the whole set up with gears included (s10 as mentioned, for example).

I put 3.42 gears from a S-10 in my Malibu. 3.23 would also be a good gear with a three speed . Look for gears 3.23, 3.42 or 3.73 gear in pre 1987 S-10s, minni vans and Trans ams and Camaros.

I have a set of 3.23 gears for the 7.5 rear end for sale...100 plus shipping. brand new richmond gear set. I bought for more, but found a rear end right after buying them so have been sitting in box.

One can source gears from a Camaro or Firebird as well(3.23 and 3.42).
Germany, looking for a higher ratio or higher number(lower gear ratio)?

2.29 2.41 and 2.73 are pretty standard here in the states.

Most Monte Carlo SS's came with 3.73 some had the optional 4.10

Some 4 cylinder, 5-speed S-trucks had 4.10 gears.

Make sure, when pulling the gears and carrier to pull the bearing races and spacers, keep them in order, and 98% of the time, no extra shimming is required for the gear back lash to be correct.

I hope i find the time to open the rearend next weeks , so i can see what exaxctly sits in the rear of my car. I have the builtsheet , but on the axle itself , i can not find any number , so i have to open it... The car seems to be put together out of several cars , so it is a little bit funny ........

Re: Gears for 7.5 10bolt/ FORD 9" out of a Caprice

Is it possible to use gears and diff from one of the following cars :
-98 Camaro , 6 zyl
-99 Camaro Z 28 , 6 speed manual
-95 Pontiac Firebird , manual

Second question:
Maybe i can get a Ford 9" , which now sits in a Caprice.... Equipped with all the nice things as swaybar , posi , disc brakes , panhard rod , special springs and so on... It was used as a car for stunt shows , saw it driving... very very fast and very good cornering and handling... :D
How wide is a standard Caprice rear?
And a G-body rear?
Maybe it is possible to put it in my car ???????
Will take pics on monday....
