Heater fan wire problems

Im not sure what this is but here is the problem:
My 79 malibu heater fan was cutting out(so I smacked the dash and it worked for a bit). I took the center dash vent out and noticed a yellow wire that looked like it was melting.
So I replaced the (non-A/C) Fan switch, Blower Motor, Reo-stat(if that is what its called).
But the wire still gets hot, and is starting to melt the plug ends. I unplugged the yellow wire and it doesn't get hot any more(so my car doesn't burn), but I kinda would like my heat back.

check the wire for a short to ground. check how many amps its pullin.
