Relay

  • Key
  • Trigger button: arm button
  • Reset button: kill switch
  • Device: Starter, coil, fuel pump, etc.
  • 0V: Ground
  • Vs: 12v normally to the Trigger switch, inline with the coil or starter wire, ECM power, etc. ("Common")

This would do well for confusing thieves. You can wire it a few different ways.
  • One would be to run the relay as it sits. The terminal the starter, etc. needs to be connected to is the one that is off when the relay isn't energized. The only drawback (if it can be considered one) is it kills the circuit automatically when you turn the ignition off, and you need to press the Trigger button every time you go to start the car back up.
  • Another way would be to wire in a pair of SPDT buttons, so both would have to be pressed in order to energize the relay, and having a third switch to kill it.
