ok guys here we go..i'm building a street class race car..can run down to 12.50.(1/4 mile).i gotta drive it to and from the track 75 miles round trip. i'm gonna use a gbody hopefully a malibu. i was thinking a mild bbc/ th350..i have a gn 8.5 with a 4:11 gear...i'm gonna try to keep the front light by removing all the extra weight out.....now the catch..ahh ya knew it was coming!!..i want to get wheels up on every launch!!..on et streets...i have thought of adding weigh to the rear if i have to...soooo what trans setup..no trans brakes..gotta be foot brake. build a torque monster big block?.i think it would be kool!!,,am i asking to much?..i see lots of wheels up cars here but they are faster than i need..so what do you think it will take?..thanks guys!

for what your doing i would build a small block. It will shave alot of weight off the front end and easily run mid 12's with a bit of air under the tires. Don't get me wrong, I like a BBC but for what you want i think a sbc would meet your needs.

well your not the first one to tell me this....i was thinking even with the extra weight the bbc's torque would make it easier??..on the motor at least..maybe not..what size converter do you think it would take 3500??.i'm not above putting weight in the trunk.even tho i'm not sure how lol honestly i wouldnt care if it ran in the 13's..i just want wheels up maybe 3-6 inches??maybe thats to much to ask??.thanks for the reply

its just that to get the tires off the ground you need good weight transfer, excellent traction and a lighter front end helps alot. I'd build a 383 with a 3500-4000 stall and 4.10 - 4.56 gears. Get the weight down to about 3000 pounds. Build an honest and easy 400 hp and you should run mid 12's pulling the tires. Actually you might go high elevens with the above combo. A BB will work too, use 3.73 - 4.10 gears and a 3000-3500 stall.

i dont think for a second this will be easy..lots of fore thought and planning.(and tuning).i hope..lol..i'm gonna have to hook this thing on et streets...i also have to drive to the track..and i cant run faster than 12.50..so if its faster i have to slow it down..our street class goes down to 12.50..it would be nice to run in the next class up also..but my goal is to pull the wheels and run street class, i will be lightening the car up as it will be my race (?) car, not cruise night car..so very little interior probaly no inner fenderwells and anything else i can take out will be history..lol..thanks for the reply..this all helps..car is on the way next week!!

Lightest trick springs, as much weight off as possible, and a converter way looser than what you're looking at.
