Ignition system/12v source Q

A buddy of mine decided to ditch his dist and install a new one with an igntion box and external coil in his 82 BU. The car starts and runs but only with the starter cranking. This leads me to believe that he only wired it to the R terminal and didn't hook up a 12v source when the key is in the run postition correct?. Which wire is the ignition 12v when running?

Hopefully someone can answer this so I don't have to trace wires tommorow

More than likely. Just pop the wires to the other terminal on the starter and you'll know ASAP.

I'm going to head down and take a look at the car thursdaybefore he makes the car go up in flames ! sounds like he made real a mess of the wiring. The Idiot was messing around with the wiring without even testing wires with the multi meter.
Some people should not be allowed under the hood of cars :x
