Hey all, picked up a knocking noise in the 355 that was in my Malibu and for the rest of the year, we are gonna put the engine that we took out of the car back in. The engine is a GM Goodwrench crate replacement, 8.5:1 CR, Edelbrock Performer Air Gap, 670 Holley Street Avenger carb, 1-5/8 Hooker Longtubes. The part number for the engine is 10067353. We just want to get a cam, lifters, and a set of valve springs to match the cams specs. Any one have any suggestions? I was looking around and some people were suggesting the Comp Cam 268.

Thanks

I'm not sure how it'll be with those heads. The 268 does really well with a Vortec-headed 350 though.

Those engines tend to run closer to 8:1 compression rather than the claimed 8.5:1

Alright guys thanks for the words of wisdom. We are gonna make an attempt at figuring out the misterious noise coming from the 355 before pulling it out. Tomorrow I'll change the oil because it seemed thin when we pulled the dipstick out. As well as white smoke at start up. If it's something that we can't fix remotely easily in the vehicle I may either park it until next spring or drop the bone stock 350 in.

Thanks again everyone

Well tomorrow I'll drain the oil and take a look at what it looks like. My motivation on the car right now is rock bottom. Me and my dad are thinking that the carb is leaking into the intake and down to the crankcase and the lifters went south on us. I might as well take the intake off seeing as lifters are a possible cause.
