I have a chance to pick up a 12 bolt from a 1969 Olds. Very cheap. Anyone know if this would be a good candidate for my 80 Malibu. I,m prepared to modify the width and buy good axels and use the upper control arm kit. What should I be looking for? Any info is appreciated.

its cheap probably because it is a series 2 carrier.

Cant use any 3:00 or up ring gears, smaller bearings.

They make gears (or they use to) that are 3:00 and up to work in it but they are/were expensive .

You also loose strength using that type of gear and that defeats the purpose of getting a 12 bolt.

BOP posi 12 bolts use to sell for 300 tops around here.

I've had some of them in the past. Turna is dead on with his post. I would pass a 68-72 Chevelle 12 bolt would be a lo buck choice.

Above posts are correct. The BOP 12 bolt is not a 12 bolt. It's a 10 bolt. The COVER has 12 bolts. It has other "features" that make it less desirable than it's real 12 bolt brother. Heck, a 10 bolt is better...
