I called Speed Inc in Schaumburg today to get a H/C recommendation and here's what they suggested:

Custom Comp grind
235 240 .621 .609 111

Patriot stage 2 LQ9 heads. Heres the #'s from a similar head with smaller valves, ill be going with the 2.055/1.60's.

Actually they first suggested the trick flow heads, but they are $1000 more and I cant see spending that much more for what probably aint worth it. I told them the specs on the car and said as long as I can cruise it on the highway without bucking im happy. That cam seems a touch nasty, but who knows. Any thoughts?

Re: Opinions on this combo

It's probably a little big for the street I'm guessing... from some of the reading I did at LS1 Tech in the past they were talking about power under the curve, etc. since it seems even with a fairly stock long block these things make killer power up top with the right cam, but are slugs on the street. Have you taken a look at their tech section over there to see what some of 'em are running?

Re: Opinions on this combo

Id say run the factory L92 heads, they flow over 300 cfm, and are dirt cheap. Then I would get a factory l76 intake or even the taller truck intake, they already have large 39 lb injectors and 90mm throttle body. you could get everything for less then the cost of aftermarket heads.

Re: Opinions on this combo

Yeah, this was my original plan way back when, but... id need injectors, fuel rail and a $400 TB since im drive by cable.

This is my main reason for avoiding the L92's.

Ill do some scrounging and re-consider. Maybe I can find injectors and a rail cheap.

Re: Opinions on this combo

Ok, im leaning in a new direction at the moment:

Send my heads out to Total Engine Airflow and have them ported, new Ferrea valves, .650" springs, etc, etc for $1850
Nice #'s, check out the exhaust flow!
Code:

Lift	Intake	Exhaust
0.1	70.6	50.4
0.2	143.1	118.2
0.3	210.9	186.7
0.4	261.1	230.7
0.5	302.9	260.1
0.55	319	269.4
0.6	334	277.1

And cam yet to be determined. Probably somewhere in the area of 225 @.050 and .570'ish lift.

In my opinion, the cheapness of the L92's is outweighed by the intake requirement and other changes required. Also, the L92's have huge *ss intake valves which will more likely cause PTV clearance issues with a big cam. I am really trying to avoid yanking pistons to have them flycut.

I also found a place that re-sizes stock injectors for less than $200, so id probably go that route. Supposedly brand X aftermarket injectors can be difficult or at least harder to tune than stock injectors.

Decisions, decisions... :-k

i wish Alan from Futral Motorsports was still specing out cams. He did great on a couple ideas on the 408 I put together

I guess we should really be asking what are your goals with the car?

If the $1000 difference was something that you thought about, kinda the same thing with the cam. That first one seems pretty radical for something that is more than just a weekend warrior. I'd be looking at something a bit more mild and save on the valvesprings, but cost and life, haha.

My goal is basically to make the most power but keep it a nice driver. I also want valve train longevity.

My old 388 ran a 224 @ .050 .525 lift, 110 LCA cam and that thing had a great torque curve and idled like grandma's 305 more or less. I know its not an apples to apples comparison, but im thinking I can get away with something that has around .050 more lift or so and similar duration.
