Hey guys!

I need some help! I am considering going to a Muncie 4 speed in my monte and may have a complete setup available to me but I need some things answered first....

The motor is a "010" 350 from a 70 monte 2 bolt main with a th350 behind it.

When changing out the flexplate, which I am almost certain is a 168 tooth, if i use the factory "606" bell housing what size flywheel do i need to get?? i think i need a 10.4/10.5 " but does anybody make it with a 168 tooth count??

Also, I have a GN rear in the car already and was wondering if anyone has done the swap to a Muncie and knows if the driveshaft will work or does it need to be lengthened/shortened??

Finally, who is running the stock mechanical clutch linkage with WHAT brand headers that will clear it?? I currently have hooker comps in the car and have heard mixed opinions about whether they will work.

Thanks in advance for the help guys!!
Ed

I can't help with your other questions, but as for the flywheel I might be able to help. I converted my 1970 ElCamino to a four-speed and used a 10.5" Center force clutch on a 168 tooth flywheel. It's just like a regular 168 tooth flywheel except the bolt pattern for the pressure plate is smaller for a 10.5" clutch instead of an 11" clutch. I got the flywheel from a buddy and it is a GM factory part that was used on certain year Corvettes, but I can't remember what year. I think I found the info on http://www.chevelles.com. Try to do a search over there and you should be able to find a part # or application for that flywheel if that is what you need. Also, keep in mind that any 168 tooth flywheel is like 14" diameter, as opposed to 13?? on the 153 tooth. I don't know if the larger diameter one will fit in the bellhousing you referred to. I used a 621 bellhousing on mine.

Sound like a fun project.I would like to put a four speed in my elcamino.I would think both flywheels will fit in the factory 606 bell housing. I think the drive shaft is the same for the th350 and the muncie. Hays, centerforce and zoom all offer flywheels in 153 and 168 tooth count and clutch kits in 10.4, 10.5 and 11 inch. Try summitracing.com or jegs.com.

I don't know about driveshaft length, but the yoke for a Muncie is the same as a TH350. TH400 yoke is different.

My bellhousing and flywheel pages are your best starting resources:
http://garage-scene.com/t5-into-ag-body/

The 168-tooth flywheel will not fit into the smaller bellhousing (e.g., 606).

You will likely have the larger flywheel, currently. You should check that your block has 3 bolt holes for the starter to ensure you can use the starter for the smaller flywheel. If not, you will have to use the larger flywheel and an appropriate bellhousing.

You will love the swap; it completely changes the personality of the car. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Marc, I have already been to your site, and it was a great help...it is what made me want to attempt the conversion.

Anyone have an answer about HEADERS that will clear the stock linkage?? Will my hooker comps work, for certain?

Is my driveshaft going to fit?? I currently have a GN shaft in my car since i'm running a th350 and a GN rear....

I am looking for the Lakewood Bell Housing 15015....so if anybody has a line on a good used one [-o<

Let me know! Thanks!

IIRC, the overall length of the Muncie/stock bell housing is the same as a TH350.

You have a choice of painted, ceramic coated, or stainless (didn't have stainless when I got mine, probably would've gotten those instead).
