how much can you narrow the housing before worrying about the factory lower mount? i have a lead on some 15x10s alumastars with 3" backspacing for cheap.

JMHO, By the time, and money, you spend on the houseing and axles you could buy wheels. And then you'll run in to tire to shock/LCA clearance issues.

To keep the tire inside the wheel well with a 10" rim you would probably have to do a frame notch too. What rear end do you have. If you narrow it and use Ford style housing ends you can eliminate the C clips too. With a frame notch you would want to shorten the rear about 2" per side. You would need to do some careful measuring to be sure.

I have a new TRZ housing in which we moved the LCA mounts 1 to 1 1/2" in from stock, plus the mounts are narrower than stock anyway.

My old rear was 59 1/2" wheel to wheel, the new rear will be 52" wheel to wheel. That's 7" narrower than what it was, 6" narrower than a stock G-body rear.

Rear wheels are 10" wide with a 2 7/8" back space. max frame notch.
