red wire on alt.... on the clip please help

just as it says the red wire next to the brown wire on the clip.... mine isnt hooked up to anything... so if you guys could tell me were it goes to would be great...

Is the a heavier (10-12awg) wire that plugs into the alternator? I'm just asking because I'm not positive that's what you're talking about, but if it is, mine has constant 12v.

Put an eyelet on it and run it to the post on the back of the alt.

I just looked it up on a factory wiring diagram and "supposed to" go to the batt terminal on the starter but like the other guys said, constant 12 volts is all it needs.

Since this topic is here... I'm using the newer style alternator ('88ish +). Is this constant 12v moved to the inside of the alternator?
