i have a rochester quadrajet carb that does not have the right manifold for the choke. Can you make ANY rochester quadrajet carb choke into an electric choke that way i can avoid buying a new intake and or carb? i just had the carb rebuilt
thanks, kyle

What intake are you using ? I`m having the same problem. I have a Holley 600 with a electric choke on the 78 El Camino . I rebuilt a 1972 Quadrajet for it a few weeks a go. I have a few Quadrajet electric choke assemblies. The problem is with my carb/ parts is that the choke assemblies when mounted to the 72 cab dont touch the fast idle cam, So I checked it with a newer Quadrajet and the new carb has a longer throttle shaft so the electric choke parts all line up. So I have two options. One, hook up a hand choke, which I like so I can have complete control over how the choke works. I do think a hand choke cheapens the car. Two, run a intake style thermostat, But the intake isnt drilled for that style of choke. So I would have to drill and seal a hole for a screw and the nub on the bottom of the housing. Not sure what im doing yet.Doug

I don`t think so. Call your local auto parts store and give them the numbers of the side of the carb and see if they can get you a electric choke kit for that carb.I`m Running a factory aluminum intake from a 84 L69 305 HO. They had electric chokes and the choke form that carb will not work with the 72 rebuild Carb becouse the throttle shaft doent line up. If it where me I would run a hand choke before a bought a new intake or carb. Doug

Can't remember where I saw it, but there's an electric choke conversion for the quad...check your local parts store.

IF it's a hot-air style choke (round choke housing on the side of the carb) the upgrade is easy- they sell a kit. Basically a bolt-in of an electric choke element in place of the old hot air element. If it's an earlier style QJet with a manifold-mounted bimetal spring choke coil, no, it's not really possible without a lot of work.

i have a 76 pontiac carb ( well at least thats what the numbers decoded to be, however, idk how accurate that is becauase it also said the carb was a 2 barrel 2 jet, when its definitely a 4 barrel) BUT yes, it is a hot air choke. so how hard is it to add on the electric choke? also it says that my carb was for a California emission standard, does that take anything away from performance? is there anyway to tell how much cfm it is? i have a mild cam in the engine (did not know when it was purchased) and i want to make sure im getting enough air to it. Thanks for the help guys, kyle

The Cali. Carb will have a very lean A/F tune but ,can be changed.
