TH-400 "Ears"

Has anyone trimmed the "ears" on there transmission case? Im running a TH-400 and the header tube lays right on the ear. I dont know if cutting these off will effect anything....

You will lose the outer screw holes for the flywheel cover!!!!! LOL You won't hurt anything, just a little strength in that area of the trans case. Take what little you need off.

I often trim them right off but i think its important to clean up and smoothen the cut marks. You don't want any potential spots for cracks to start.

I cut mine. I even bought an Ultra bell and cut the extra ears off the top of it.

When I had a Th400 I would cut the ears off as we'll

never had any issues.

Not that it's any big deal if you're not getting hassled at tech, but you do realize you killed the SFI rating by doing that, right?

Did you run a dust cover?


I am pretty sure a ran a plastic one with the 2 other screws in place.

plastic wouldnt rattle
