Quick question. On a drag only car (off the trailer, to the stagging lanes, down the strip, on the return road and back to the pits) can you "lock out" the detent cable ? Seeing as the detent cable lets the trans know that your at wide open throttle can you pull the detent cable and keep it locked out. Will this hurt anything? The car will be shifter manually with the shifter at all times. Let me know your input. Thanks.

If you lock it in the out/downshift position you're return trip back to pits will be in 1st gear. It will only shift off the Gov at WOT.
