I bring this up because I bought one at the nashville fairgrounds swap meat, at the time couldn't remember the difference between the 8.2 and 8.5 so I took a gamble with it. guy was asking 125.00 I got it for 75.00 with a 3:08 gear and no posi it came out of a 67 Chevelle, El Camino is it worth messing with or should I resell and go with a 8.5 THANKS

I would go with a 8.5 or a 12 bolt. A posi fro the 8.20s are hard to find.

Eaton makes a new Posi for the 8.2, but the 8.2 doesn't fit your car without special controll arms. The 8.2 is usually considered scrap metal, but it can handle around 400 HP if built right.

i had an 8.2 sitting around and tossed it in the scrap pile. i was told it was only marginally stronger than the 7.5.

That's what usually happens to them. Very few of them get sold because most people don't want them, but they can hold up pretty well for street use.

Buddy of mine has one under his 84 Cutlass. He installed a posi unit(cashy) and redid the UCA. It is holding fine! 11.00-11.20 for 4 years now.
