Painting the engine yesterday, I realized I got two different brands of paint - first RustOleum when I painted the heads a while back, then Dupli-Color yesterday. I found something out:

Spraying with Rustoleum sucks (at least with this can), the Dupli-Color sprayed much nicer and covered much more evenly - i.e. no spits and sputters or paint running down the nozzle. The Rustoleum still seemed to cover ok, but I now have little paint spatters on my hand and arm :x

Dupli-Color for engines...I seem to use Krylon for engine brackets etc. I've had good luck with those two.

Try replacing the button on top with another one that you know works.
They often get clogged and make a big old mess like that...

My experience with rustoleum is that it works great the first session the can is used. Once the used can is put away and reused, it doesn't work. Replacing or cleaning the nozzle does not fix the problem. The problem is like there are too many solids in the mix and they clog the pick-up tube or produce spatter.

I never had that experience with Krylon.

I do that all of the time, but for some reason rustoleum doesn't work after a period of not using it. At first the nozzle will clog, but then the tube inside gets clogged.
