I have a problem and I think I solved it .....Just wanna be sure is all.... I have a '84 Monte with the 12 bolt rear from a '69 Chevelle.....Running Weld 15x10" wheels with a 6" back space ( I think).. I keep eating the outside of the tires and rubbing the inner wheel wells when I have a few people on board..... After doing some math and checking the FAQ I think I need 15x8 tires with no more then 4 1/2" back space..........Oh yeah, I have the 275x60x15 tires. Is this a correct theory I have????
"This isn't necessarily something set in stone, because you can tweak things to run a pretty big tire. Some people are interested in drag racing, some want the biggest wheel diameter with ultra low profile tires. Since this is primarily a drag racing site, I'll say that a 275/60/15 is the largest rear street tire you can run and a 28x10.50 is the largest slick. I found that the McCreary L60-15 fit nicely. These should be used with 15x8" wheel and 3.5" backspacing. "
So with that in mind.....I believe I need the 15x8 wheel with the 4.5 back space to compensate for the width difference in the 12 bolt compared to the 10 bolt?? Thaks in advance!!!

When I ran a 68-72 Chevelle 12 bolt in My Malibu with 8" wheels I ran 5.5" back spacing. They still would rub the 1/4 panel lip sometimes with a 255/60R15 or a 28x9 slick. I don't think a 4.5" backspace will work it will be in rubing Your 1/4 panel.

I have a 12 bolt from a 67 chevelle and i run 15x8 with 275-60 with 5.5 b/s, i think the 68-72 12 bolts are wider and i believe you need 6.5 b/s....

My bu has a 68 Chevelle 12 bolt. I have 15x8 with 5.5 back space I have Hoosier QTP's 10x28x15 no rub but I have a mild frame notch. I have had 275 60's on it with a bunch of room.

my bu has 12 bolt but dont have brake drums yet...is there a way I can tell what year i have I looked all around the rear end for numbers but cant find any or maybe im not lookin in the right place for them also I did some research on here and thought I might have to notch and lip work before I did my research for my 15x8 b.s. 4 1/2 so I noticed that the 12 bolt is wider than the 7.5 and 8.5 and if Im correct 10 bolt as well so my main question is maybe all I will have to do is work on the lip to make the 4 1/2 b.s. to work thx Glenn

64-67 Chevelle 54.250"
68-72 Chevelle 55.250"
