have radiator water pump & thermostat installed on my big block ( 1980 Malibu) is it ok to fill the block through the temp guage hole in the intake manifold...and add remainder of coolant to the radiator

i don't think you did.
you can,The block itself holds just over a gallon.it might take a while but you can get it through there.are you concerned about filling the radiator and waiting for the t-stat to open?

i like to drill a 1/16 " hole on the side of the thermostat of a street engine to let air escape through for easier coolant filling and circulation. I remove the guts of the thermostat altogether on a race engine.

At that point I would just fill it through the radiator and let the air purge out through the gauge port.
