my plan is to do this least expensive for what i want ,,,my plan is to go with a 4 barrel carb ,,, clearly the intake , carb,,distributor and i believe the cam needs to be changed is there anything i am missing ,,,, the block has provisions for a mech fuel pump ,,,, the fi fuel system has already been converted to mech pump so im good there ,,,,, also are there intakes availeable for the 86 4.3 thanks
Sounds like everything's covered, I don't know if the cam has a mechanical lobe, otherwise it would just be intake/carb/distributor swap. Why are you going to carb? What's this for?
GM produced a 4.3 V6 with a 4 barrel carburetor for their light duty trucks in 1985 and 1986. The carbed engines were used in light duty full size pickups and Astro and Safari vans. Those engines are getting kind of rare these days though. There are aftermarket 4 barrel intakes available for the 4.3, but they're not emission compatible though (no provision for EGR). As Doober said, what kind of project are you working on?
not sure what motor will be used for i just have it on a stand and is a good running motor ,,,for me its easier to deal with a carb'd motor than tbi etc ,,,,just seeking info for future use maybe it will go back in the monte or i have a model A frame i want to start building and thought the 4.3 would be good for that
If you can find a good set of real ('96+) Vortec heads at a junkyard & bolt a carbed intake to that with a mild cam you'll have a decent little runner
sounds like a good idea vortec's
