tach works in reverse above 3000

bbc msd 6al, msd dist, msd blaster 2, timing at 38. car runs fine at as long as i dont rev it to 3000 then it starts to pop and die out. If I try to give it gas the tach read in rev. This only happens when i rev past 3000. help
