I have a stock Buick 3.42 posi 8.5 in the car now and am currently in the middle of a build that should put the car in the low 10/high 9 second range with help from the bottle. Is it worth it to put money into the 8.5 (axles, gears, full spool, c clip elim, rear cover with axle brace tubes) or just sell it and put the money toward a 9 inch? Money is not easy to come by now days so I would prefer to spend it on what will last.

The 8.5" is a pretty stout assembly, but it sounds like you will be moving forward in the near future. I second going to the 9".

I think I'd have to agree... 8.5 doesn't have quite the aftermarket like a 9" does.

I'm surprised....I expected someone to ask "how much do you want for your 8.5?" by now. you should have no problem getting rid of that, and have a good chunk to put towards the 9".

It will be a bit until I can get everything together for the 9" so I'll keep what I have for now. No sense in making it completely imobile for the time being.

I personally decided to stay with my 8.5 mainly because I could do the fab/welding myself to put the 9" housing ends on etc... so far all is good. 2 years of 9.70s-10.0s and lots of street miles.
