Lazy/Slow shifts

My transmission was rebuilt just before I took my car apart for the restoration about 7 years ago. Back then it had a nice firm shift, but now when under power, it has a lazy shift between all the gears. Since I've been driving the car over the last year I've put about 250 miles on it and it still has a lazy shift. I thought from sitting maybe something might have been stuck and using it would cure it. The only thing I did not hook back up was the kickdown cable. Would that have anything to do with it? I'm pretty clueless when it comes to automatic transmissions.

Detent/Kickdown cable shouldn't cause that issue. Vacuum can.
Put a 0-300psi. Pressure gauge on it & check the pressures at Idle & 1200rpm in all gear ranges.
