Back in the early 90s my first Malibu '78 had a 482" (Nickens built) crane R274 roller,Fully worked W port Bowtie heads, 2.30, 1.88 valves manley severe duty,T-400,4800 stall, GN 8.5 w/moser axles,4.11 gears, MSD dist, 7al-2, 2" primary3.5" collectors, 3" ex w/H-pipe, 2 chamber flows, Weiand team G, 1050 dominator, BG400 pump,Magnum plus nitrous nozzie system and a plate kit. Notched frame, 15x10s w/28x10.5s,
This huge money pit ran the best of:
10.20@137 1.4 60'N/A
9.32@153 1.36 on 250 shot(traction was going away)
Got real brave and grabbed both kits:
I saw the Texas moon, lost traction, got out of it too harsh crushed my headers, broke the tie rod ends on the passenger side, bent the passenger front rim, broke the radiator and bent the heck out of my Grant steering wheel....
Now these days you can pretty much get a junkyard 6.0 put a sweet set of heads, matching cam and a 175-200 shot and run with my old combo all day and have no driveability problems cruising the streets........ gotta love modern technology. I still love the sounds of a healthy RATT
