7.5 or 8.5 rear end???

i got a 78 chevy malibu wondering if it has a 7.5 or 8.5 rear end it is a 10 bolt and i counted the gears it has 21 pinion teeth and 48 ring gear teeth i havent taken it out yet does anybody no for sure what they come with

thanks i already ordered the 3.73s for a 7.5 but when i went to autozone the only diff cover gaskets they sold were for 8.5 but thanks

i just used silicon on mine when i put the 12 bolt back together.

are you re-using the same carrier?

If so, you will also need a spacer or a different ring gear.
