8.5 stock posi performance limit ??

how fast are you going with a stock posi (rebuilt or not) in an 8.5 gn rear???

i've got a 3.42 gear that i'd like to change to a 4.10. but if i change gears, carrier and axles and add eliminators, i may as well sell the rear and buy a moser...

this rear works so good, i'm hesitant to touch it. but i think the gear is starting to hold me up a bit....

Within reason, tires are variable gear instruments. Again within reason, going from say a 28 inch tire to a 26 inch tall tire will make 3.42's act like 3.73's. I actually ran a 24.5-8.5x15 slick one year to gain some gearing advantage. A posi itself doesn't have a "speed limit" that I'm aware of but may have limits as to how much traction they can support.

11.50s here on bone stock gn rear with 4.10 gear... Hope this helps....

and my posi carrier is from a 78 camaro, 4spd, so Im sure it had some abuse.
