Thanks that is some good info.

Can anyone tell me if the olds 442 rears have bolt in axels where as the gn or other 10 bolt rears use c clips?

Did you try to find the part number on the rear? It is usually located on the front side of the right side (passengers side) axle tube. If it is rusted and what not, get the grinder out with a wire wheel run it around on the front of that tube and you should find it. Then run the number on a site that has the numbers. We can look that up.

No, All the 8.5 rears in all g-bodys used c-clips.

That is correct. The bolt in axle 8.5 rears werein the early 1970's a body and full size cars.
GN and 442 use the same rear 10 bolt 8.5 c-clip type axle retention.

Now as for the stamped code that may be the only way to tell if the rear was 442 or GN...??? Jim

Are you sure those numbers are right. They don't line up with anything I can find. I am looking at a chart in the tech section.

Maybe it will help you.
