Can get an open differential from a GN with 3.42 gear for $800 or the guy has a built one for $1800. My question...is the one for $1800 worth that much. This is what i Know about it: 3.42 richmond gears, Auburn Posi, Mosier Axel and it has Aluminum Drum brakes.

Would I just be better off getting the one for $800 and just adding a posi unit to it? This will be behind a 355 (nothing special)

Any feed back would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If it was me , I would buy a new Auburn posi for the 3.42 gears . I also wouldnt replace the axles if they are not worn where the bearings ride and the splines are fine ,Also make sure there straight. Now all thats needed is four new bears, two seals, posi gear lub and a rear cover gasket. \:D/

$800 seems too high for an open diff rear. I only paid $550 for my GN posi rear.

800 is a bit high for an open.
1800 is WAY to much for an 8.5, you can get a bolt in ford 9 inch for around $2200-2600 pending options....

It only costed me a little over $600 for Moser 33 spline axles with C clip eliminators installed, and a spool with carrier bearings installed, and this was new from Moser.

I got my Posi 8.5" for under $300. Have no issues at all. From $600-$1000 is about normal for a posi rear. The open is about $200
